Following Jim Jordan’s (R-OH-4) failure to become Speaker after three ballots the Republican Members of the House of Representatives returned to square one in their effort to elect a Speaker.
Today we hit 20 days without a Speaker of the House and the Republicans appear to be no closer to finding a route out of their dysfunction.
Yesterday nine Republicans filed to compete to be the Republican nominee for Speaker. Yes, given what has happened so far nine more Republicans actually want the job. After McCarthy, Scalise, and Jordan that brings us up to twelve out of the 221 Republicans (i.e. 5%), who have sought the job this Congress.
