McCarthy ousted as House Speaker
Kevin McCarthy’s rough and rocky Speakership has come to an abrupt end today after less than nine months.
The House voted 216-210 to remove Kevin McCarthy from the Speakership.
It, of course, never needed to come to this. McCarthy is solely responsible for losing the Speakership. Everyone else’s decisions were the natural response to McCarthy’s choices.
The most valuable and easiest to lose asset of any Member of Congress is their word: Do they stick to the deals they make?
McCarthy first lost the respect of members of his own caucus by seeming to do and say anything to appease whoever was in front of him over his long years in the House.
He entered the Speakership race in January with a narrow majority and a numerically significant number of his own caucus who didn’t trust him.
The theme of Kevin McCarthy’s Speakership was him proving to increasingly more people that he was not someone who stuck to his word.
